Australia Research Network: Integrating and Value Adding Australian Research through Production, Enhancement and Communications Capacities, across the Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts. The proposed SRI brings together research leaders from across 22 Universities and multiple disciplines including history, politics, anthropology, international relations, law, education and studies in culture, society, media, communications, migration, gender, regionalism, heritage, and Indigenous societies. ....Australia Research Network: Integrating and Value Adding Australian Research through Production, Enhancement and Communications Capacities, across the Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts. The proposed SRI brings together research leaders from across 22 Universities and multiple disciplines including history, politics, anthropology, international relations, law, education and studies in culture, society, media, communications, migration, gender, regionalism, heritage, and Indigenous societies. Outcomes include masterclasses and workshops aimed at training team members and mentoring graduate and postdoctoral researchers. The project involves the migration of the management of the Australian Public Intellectual Network http://www.api-network.com to the SRI, which will become its primary stakeholder and developer. Shaping Australia’s Aboriginal Health Services: Politics, power and people. This project aims to provide the first comprehensive Aboriginal-owned and -authored history of the national Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services network – comprised of 150 local primary health providers and recognised as critical to ‘closing the gap’ in Aboriginal disadvantage. Informal life politics in the remaking of Northeast Asia: from Cold War to post-Cold War. This project will create a new approach to our understanding of non-state politics and social change in Northeast Asia as that region completes its crucial transition to a post-Cold War order. It will advance scholarship in area studies and strengthen Australia's place as a world-leading centre for the study of Northeast Asia.
Re-Writing the Nation: The Politics of Indonesian History since Suharto. In Indonesia's New Order era under President Suharto, history served a direct propaganda role in state ideology. As yet no replacement state ideology has been formulated by the three subsequent governments. In the absence of a clear direction for the state, Islamic, nationalist and other groups jockey for power. The role of unfree labour has been central to the debate on colonialism and the spread of global trade in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Much has been written about particular colonies, but little examines colonial labour as part of a global phenomenon. This project does so by comparing companies, workers and the state across a number of European colonies.
