I am a clinical researcher determining: a) the role of altered airway structure, particularly airway smooth muscle and extracellular matrix, in asthma and COPD; and b) the prevalence of, and risk factors for, respiratory disease in general populations.
I am a pulmonary physician-gene therapist persuing new therapies for pulmonary vascular disease, lung cancer and mesothelioma, COPD and lung transplant rejection
Dr Reid is a respiratory physician determining the relationships between bacterial pathogen behaviour and the host immune response in Cystic Fibrosis. The aim of his research is to use observations made in the clinical setting to develop novel therapeutics and identification of biomarkers that will be employed to pre-empt and better treat clinical disease with the ultimate aim of improving length and quality of life.

Summary
Chronic respiratory disease, tuberculosis and the effects of air pollution are important health problems globally. Evaluating current approaches to dealing with these problems and developing new approaches requires good data. Over the next five years I will lead a number of studies addressing these issues, in Australia and internationally, in order to provided the strongest possible evidence to underpin policy.
