Cross-cultural translations: initiating Australian encounters with post colonial Korean art and national identity. The project analyses the complex problems of exhibiting the art of other cultures to both insiders and outsiders. It develops a new theoretical approach to understanding the complexities of cross-cultural translation, the dynamics of cross-cultural receptions, and the concepts of otherness and identity in visual arts. The project analyses the complex problems of exhibiting the art of other cultures to both insiders and outsiders. It develops a new theoretical approach to understanding the complexities of cross-cultural translation, the dynamics of cross-cultural receptions, and the concepts of otherness and identity in visual arts. In translating and presenting the rich, diverse and vibrant art of post-1945 Korea in an art historically important yet accessible way, first to culturally unfamiliar Australians, then to other Asians and finally to Koreans themselves, a new model for exhibiting other cultures will be developed.Read moreRead less

Australia plays an important role in the global response to climate change. This project will benefit Australian communities by building capacity to more effectively respond to and make informed decisions about climate change by looking to the museum sector as change-agents, well-equipped to operate as a global network. It will develop institutional capacity to communicate high-level state of the art knowledge about climate change to produce better informed citizens; provide forums where diverse interests can meet; and produce new avenues for Australian communities to interact and contribute to local and global debates and decision-making on climate change.Read moreRead less
Flute properties without players, and without flutes. This project will measure how the acoustic impedance spectra of some flutes depend upon the detailed shape of the bore and the size, shape and position of the holes. It will develop a model to predict, for the benefit of instrument makers, the effect of proposed changes in the geometry of the instrument on the pitches and ease of playing of notes played on the instrument. Importantly, it will allow museum curators to determine tunings and (un ....Flute properties without players, and without flutes. Importantly, it will allow museum curators to determine tunings and (uncompensated) temperaments of historic instruments that cannot readily be played.Read moreRead less
