Autonomous software agents and robotic systems with general intelligence are frontier technologies that have the potential to significantly enhance Australia's leading role in information and communication technology. A new generation of intelligent software is provided by computer programs that can adapt fully automatically to previously unknown situations without the need to be re-programmed. Innovative products will also emerge from a new generation of autonomous systems that are able to adapt to different environments.

New Mobile Interface Techniques for Accessing Desktop Applications from Mobile Devices. The mobile data industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and is growing at a rate of seventeen percent per year. The capability to access data and applications from handheld devices is becoming increasingly vital for businesses and transforming business practices. However, while there are a multitude of software applications available for use on desktop computers these typically can't be used from mobile devices due to the small form factor. In this project we will develop new mobile interface techniques and methodologies that will allow unaltered desktop software applications to be used from small-form factor mobile devices, via transforming the application interfaces.

The logic of bargaining is fundamental to understanding human negotiation and multiagent interaction. This project provides a new paradigm of negotiation with the integration of qualitative and quantitative analysis of bargaining processes and enhancement of implementation technologies for negotiation automation and trading agent design. The theoretic approach can be applied to a wide range of areas for the analysis of economic, political and social phenomena. The techniques, algorithms and possible patents generated by the project can be directly used by the Australian IT industry for the development of efficient e-trading systems, allowing Australian business to take advantage of new e-market territories.
