Improved services will result in improved community health and wellbeing. This project will also develop the research capacity of Australia through training of key individuals who will lead future research and development of emergency health services in Australia.Read moreRead less
A randomised controlled trial assessing the effects of a school-based sleep intervention in Year 6 and 7 students. Children are sleeping less than ever before, and there is an increasing pattern of “yo yo sleeping” (sleep deprivation on school days followed by catch up sleeps on weekends). Musculoskeletal injuries sustained as a consequence of road traffic crashes are common and costly to the Australian community. Many people do not recover well after the injury but suffer ongoing pain and disability. The Centre for Research Excellence in Recovery Following Road Traffic Injury will target a clear need to improve health outcomes for injured individuals through research, capacity building and end-user engagement with a focus in primary care.

This study directly relates to the National Research Priority of 'promoting and maintaining good health' through our approach to trial a new and innovative model of chronic disease management specifically for CVD and Type II diabetes in general practice. This project aims to test a new model of health service delivery - that is, the use of a practice nurse to provide chronic disease care rather than a general practitioner. Improving the physical and oral health of people with severe mental illness: using Normalisation Process Theory to support new practices. The physical health of people with severe mental illness is extremely poor, often due to inadequate attention to their health needs by health professionals in primary care and the public mental health system. The findings will inform effective multidisciplinary collaboration and service integration, address service gaps and duplication and lead to increased access to services. This study will generate new knowledge about characteristics of organisations, service delivery and professions that facilitate or hinder innovation.Read moreRead less
Evaluation Of Chlamydia Trachomatis Treatment Failure: A Cohort Study Of Women
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$761,844.00
Summary
Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmissible infection in Australia that can lead to infertility in women. About 4% of young adults have it. There is increasing concern by experts about the efficacy of the recommended chlamydia treatment. This is further supported by very high repeat infection rates following a previous positive chlamydia diagnosis. This study will measure whether chlamydia treatment failure is a problem and if so, this will change treatment guidelines worldwide.
