The project focuses on the complex version of Ricci flow: Kahler-Ricci flow. The project plans to explore the Kahler-Ricci flow in the closed and complete non-compact settings and the corresponding versions of Geometric Minimal Model Program; and the Kahler-Ricci flow in the Fano manifold setting and stability conditions.Read moreRead less
Counting points on algebraic surfaces. This project aims to develop algorithms for calculating the number of solutions to polynomial equations and to compute zeta functions of certain types of algebraic varieties. Existing algorithms cannot solve these problems. The new algorithms will enable researchers in number theory to test and refine conjectures on generalisations of many famous problems, such as the Sato-Tate conjecture, the Lang-Trotter conjecture and the Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture ....Counting points on algebraic surfaces. A structural understanding of diagram categories is essential in many branches of mathematics and science. Despite this, very few methods for studying such categories are available, a fact this pure mathematics project seeks to rectify. By building strong bridges between diagram categories and semigroup theory, a field of abstract algebra that models transformation and change, the structure of diagram categories may be unlocked with powerful semigroup tools developed by the applicant investigator. Diagrammatic insights will also yield new ways to study semigroups, and the many other mathematical structures they interact with. Outcomes will have a lasting impact on both theories as well as the many fields influenced by them.Read moreRead less

This project aims to investigate deep connections between number theory and group theory by studying linear actions of arithmetic groups. Arithmetic groups are used in geometry, dynamics, number theory and other areas of pure mathematics. This project will study their representations from two perspectives. First, it will establish properties of the associated zeta functions to resolve open problems about the asymptotic behaviour of the dimensions of the irreducible representations. Second, it will explore the evolution of representations across families of groups under new induction and restriction functors, in analogy with creation and annihilation operators in physics. The project will enhance Australia's capacity in representation theory and group theory, the mathematics that underline symmetry in nature.Read moreRead less
Problems in harmonic analysis: decoupling and Bourgain-Brezis inequalities. This project in mathematics aims to study two recent, promising developments in harmonic analysis, namely Fourier decoupling and Bourgain-Brezis inequalities. The former captures how waves interfere upon superposition; the latter arose initially in the study of the Ginzburg-Landau theory of superconductors. This exciting project seeks to deliver deep insights into how different frequencies interact, and aims to develop p ....Problems in harmonic analysis: decoupling and Bourgain-Brezis inequalities. This exciting project seeks to deliver deep insights into how different frequencies interact, and aims to develop powerful new tools to advance the study of partial differential equations and analytic number theory. This Future Fellowship should benefit Australia by improving our scientific capability. It will bring world-class researchers to Australia for collaboration, and put Australia at the forefront of first rate research.

Interactions between geometric and topological structures. This project aims to develop the necessary tools for a geometric imagination in higher dimensions and to bridge the gap between low and high dimensions. Topology is the mathematical study of the shape of spaces. Geometry endows spaces with additional structure such as distance, angle and curvature. Moduli space encodes the different ways in which a geometry can be assigned to a space. Moduli space encodes the different ways in which a geometry can be assigned to a space. Expected outcomes of the project include construction of computable invariants, solution of realisation problems and understanding degeneration of geometries.Read moreRead less

This project aims to reimagine classical objects in geometry and topology such as Teichmüller space as variations of infinity operads. This reimagining will ensure new insights into key objects across three areas of mathematics: algebraic number theory (the mathematics of modern encryption), the representation theory of quantum groups and topological quantum field theories. Higher representation theory is a relatively new field, but its tools have already had a tremendous impact on mathematics. The project is expected to use these tools to address outstanding questions in geometric group theory. Integral transforms and moduli theory. This project is in algebraic geometry, a branch of pure
mathematics. An overarching goal is a better understanding of the
algebra underlying the sophisticated geometries that arise in the
classification problems that are pervasive in mathematics and its
applications to physics. This new knowledge will then be applied to
further elucidate the geometry of these spaces.
