    The Australian naturalistic driving study: innovation in road safety research and policy. A revolutionary new approach, the naturalistic driving study, will investigate what people actually do when they drive, in normal and safety-critical situations. It will provide Australia with answers to some intractable, high priority, road safety problems that cannot be answered using current methods, thereby saving hundreds of lives.

The live link to the test-bed is a unique feature of the proposed facility. It will provide researchers with access to field data from sensors, videos and detectors to test prototypes of systems and evaluate their performance under live traffic conditions.

It is expected that this will result in significant environmental benefit, through reductions in fuel burn for each flight, and increases in system effectiveness. The project will enable better analysis of Australian aviation environmental effect, whilst at the same time allowing the aviation industry to continue to contribute to Australia's sustainable economic growth.
