This project aims to build analytics for controlling a fleet of autonomous trucks and drones working in tandem to deliver retail goods and disaster relief. This project expects to develop new mathematical and artificial intelligence algorithms for routing and scheduling the vehicles and for directing the multi-modal transfer of goods between vehicles in real-time as traffic conditions change. Expected outcomes of this project include new theories and technologies that enable a central computer to remotely control the autonomous fleet for maximum efficiency. Benefits in transport and logistics include improved freight productivity through reducing costs and delivery times.Read moreRead less
An integrated and real-time passenger travel and public transport service information system. This project will help the Department of Transport provide improved services to the public through a better understanding of journey planning demands in comparison to public transport services. By integrating research through design methods with technological solutions, the project will deliver better quality of service and higher customer satisfaction.
Synchromodal container logistics for Australia. Synchromodal container logistics for Australia. This project aims to develop advanced mathematical optimization models and algorithms to create multi-modal logistics approaches for container movements in and out of Australia’s busy ports. The increasingly congested capital cities of Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne need to find new ways of moving an increasing volume of containerized freight. Moving from trucks to rail is expected to reduce pollution and road congestion, but is only possible if highly efficient modes of operation can be developed. Research into system design and operational scheduling is expected to achieve the required efficiency for multi-modal logistics that will reduce air pollution and road congestion.Read moreRead less
Predictive Analytics and Real-time Traffic Control for Urban Corridors. This project aims to develop predictive data analytics and real-time traffic control and safety models for multimodal management of urban corridors, serving two salient objectives: (1) optimising person-throughput of multimodal traffic; while (2) minimising safety risks for all modes. The outcome will be an automated, sensor-based platform to monitor traffic flows from all modes and make proactive and coordinated control dec ....Predictive Analytics and Real-time Traffic Control for Urban Corridors. This project aims to develop predictive data analytics and real-time traffic control and safety models for multimodal management of urban corridors, serving two salient objectives: (1) optimising person-throughput of multimodal traffic; while (2) minimising safety risks for all modes. The outcome will be an automated, sensor-based platform to monitor traffic flows from all modes and make proactive and coordinated control decisions in real-time. The expected benefits are profound; the developed algorithms and platform will significantly reduce traffic congestion, travel delays and safety risks for all modes of transport, especially for vulnerable road users (e.g. pedestrians and cyclists).Read moreRead less
Improving external validity of stated choice experiments. This project aims to deliver more accurate estimates of choice behaviour by reducing biases due to choice task complexity in surveys as well as design artefacts. Extracting 'true' preferences is challenging, not only due to possible hypothetical bias, but also due to increasingly complex choice tasks and the existence of design artefacts. This project will investigate the latter two in the context of marketing, transport, health, and environmental economics, and proposes new methodologies to extract preferences that more closely reflect true behaviour in real markets.Read moreRead less
