Photography and eugenics: an historical investigation of photography's role in the development and popularisation of the eugenics movement. This project analyses the uses of racial type photographs by the eugenics movement. Photography was used as a scientific tool by eugenicists but this project is primarily concerned with its role in popularising and legitimating a movement that won widespread acceptance between c.1870 and WW2. It is important for our understanding of the region that we are informed about the development of minority gender identities in an Asian context from both human rights and health perspectives. It thus links the earliest global system with current globalisation studies, giving those analyses historical depth. Frigidity in France: the history of a sexual pathology and of its place in feminist critique. The history of sexuality is an area of research which puts into historical perspective the disorders and abnormalcies which make up so much modern talk about sexuality. It helps to show that many of the supposed sexual problems which are central to modern thinking took shape only recently, and did so in particular circumstances. This is in fact a very active field of international humanities research, a ....Frigidity in France: the history of a sexual pathology and of its place in feminist critique. It helps to show that many of the supposed sexual problems which are central to modern thinking took shape only recently, and did so in particular circumstances. A detailed, circumstantial history of frigidity will make it possible to question the 'science' which founds twentieth-century norms for female sexual behaviour. My Island Home - Construction of cultural identity for Torres Strait Islanders who migrated to the mainland post World War Two. The aims of the research are to examine 1) the construction of cultural identity for Torres Strait Islanders who migrated to Cairns during 1946 to 1955 and 2) to identify issues in relation to the construction and maintenance of cultural identity; the Islander's 'integration' into Australian society; and the transitional processes they negotiated in establishing new com ....My Island Home - Construction of cultural identity for Torres Strait Islanders who migrated to the mainland post World War Two. The aims of the research are to examine 1) the construction of cultural identity for Torres Strait Islanders who migrated to Cairns during 1946 to 1955 and 2) to identify issues in relation to the construction and maintenance of cultural identity; the Islander's 'integration' into Australian society; and the transitional processes they negotiated in establishing new communities away from the Torres Strait. This project is significant as it is one of the very few research projects conducted by a Torres Strait Islander on this issue, and its outcome will be a new perspective on the migration and culture of Torres Strait Islander people.
