Summary
Mental health problems in Australian children are common and associated with adverse short and long term outcomes. Treatments including medication and psychological interventions can improve these outcomes but only 50% of Australian children with mental health problems receive them. We will quantify child, family, clinician and health care system factors associated with treatment use and provide a roadmap for clinicians and policy makers to improve access for Australian children.
Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal sex-offenders in Australia: Assessing risk for practice and policy. A key priority of Australian governments is to improve community safety through reducing the risk of sex offenders re-offending after release from prison. This project will assess the validity of tools used to predict the risk of sexual offender recidivism and identify alternate risk assessment tools for Indigenous and non-Indigenous sex offenders.

Summary
Cardiovascular disease kills one Australian every 12 minutes. Coordinated and prompt medical treatment of heart attack is essential in preventing mortality. This study will identify contributing factors of delay from a frontline clinician and hospital perspective. It is anticipated by understanding the impact these factors have on the delivery of heart attack care, an evidence base is built to support the various clinicians involved, and improve this complex process of care across Victoria.

Researchers in allied health and primary care are partnering with Northern Sydney Medicare Local and the NSW State Falls Program (Clinical Excellence Commission) to establish a multi-disciplinary pathway model for fall prevention. The aim is to establish integrated processes and pathways at the levels of practitioner, practice, and program to identify older people at risk of falls and engage a whole of primary care approach to fall prevention. This project will employ multi-methodologies.

Summary
This proposal will develop and test interventions to reform maternity and maternal & child health systems to tackle known inequalities in health and health care for vulnerable families, particularly clients of refugee backgrounds. Innovation in system redesign and service delivery will result in sustainable improvements in access to and quality of care and measurable improvements in maternal, newborn and child health.
Administrative justice in China: harnessing the rule of law to deal with citizen complaints against official misconduct. Ongoing conflicts between citizens and government officials in China pose a serious threat to the country’s social stability. Dealing fairly and efficiently with citizens’ complaints of administrative misconduct is a core component of China’s commitment to good governance and the rule of law. Capacitating student aspirations in classrooms and communities in a high poverty region. This project studies the aspirations of students in a disadvantaged area, as cultural resources for completing school, accessing higher education and realising desirable futures. It will produce new concepts and research methods for increasing social equity by working closely with students and families, and making links between schools and communities.
Criminalisation of poverty and homelessness in Australia: A national study. The project aims to assess the policing and enforcement of public order crimes and related offences (e.g. obstruct/disobey police, breach of bail, and minor property offences) on individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness. The project endeavours to collect and analyse qualitative data from across Australia on the lived experience of people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, regarding the impact of crimin ....Criminalisation of poverty and homelessness in Australia: A national study. The project aims to shed light on how early childhood (EC) educators can address intergenerational educational disadvantage by raising aspirations for their own learning and for the children with whom they work. The project arises from a tension in the current reform agenda for the Australian EC sector.
