Life and environments of the Lower Cretaceous Winton Formation, western Queensland: The Winton Dinosaur Project. This proposal is for research into vertebrate assemblages from newly discovered fossil sites in the Winton Formation, western Queensland. These sites indicate that the Winton Formation is one of the most palaeontologically productive Lower Cretaceous continental sequences in Australia. Within it are preserved vertebrates (including several new types of dinosaurs, crocodilians, turtles ....Life and environments of the Lower Cretaceous Winton Formation, western Queensland: The Winton Dinosaur Project. These sites indicate that the Winton Formation is one of the most palaeontologically productive Lower Cretaceous continental sequences in Australia. Within it are preserved vertebrates (including several new types of dinosaurs, crocodilians, turtles, lungfish and freshwater sharks), invertebrates, plants and trace-fossils of a restricted biome over a relatively short time span. Although human influences now pervade all Earth processes, environmental ideals of pristine past landscapes without people continue to dominate. The project addresses the challenge of managing environments for hybridity, change and human presence, rather than timeless purity. Provision of dedicated instruments for contemporary and ancient/fragmentary DNA analyses will provide numerous opportunities for innovative research solutions in basic biology, archaeological, agricultural, biomedical, forensic and environmental sciences. Dreaming Tracks and Trading Paths - a study of Aboriginal trading routes through Queensland. Aboriginal song lines and trade routes became the foundation for stock routes, coach ways and bitumen highways because successful European exploration used the expediency of Aboriginal guides who travelled along the routes already familiar to them. These routes are documented in instruments of land management such as churingas, toas or shields, and in the mnemotic memory of songs and stories. Striking benefits will flow from tracing the historical relationships between the non-Indigenous and Indigenous peoples of the region, particularly in mutual understanding.
