This project aims to strengthen the tradition of Australian metaphysics, by studying fundamentality, or the notion of being fundamental. It revives the classical monistic worldview on which we are interdependent and interrelated fragments of a greater whole. A cross-disciplinary collaboration to develop a national system for real-time detection of Adverse Drug Reactions using linked Australian health data. Our aim is to use existing administrative health data in the evidence-based, cost-effective and privacy-respecting discovery of Adverse Drug Reactions. This research is of vital importance, since adverse reactions to medicines currently represent one of the leading causes of hospitalisation and death in Australia. Our aim is to use existing administrative health data in the evidence-based, cost-effective and privacy-respecting discovery of Adverse Drug Reactions. This research is of vital importance, since adverse reactions to medicines currently represent one of the leading causes of hospitalisation and death in Australia. In a groundbreaking collaboration, we have successfully shown that large linked, administrative data sets are sufficiently rich to enable discovery of adverse drug reactions, but our analytic tools are at an early developmental stage. The impact of outdoor youth programs on positive adolescent development: an empirical evaluation. This project will seek to ensure that the nation's outdoor resources are fully utilised for the benefit of young people. Accordingly, this project will conduct the first comprehensive randomised controlled trial of a structured outdoor youth program in order to inform more strategic investment in outdoor programs to promote positive youth development.

The legitimacy of Australia's Antarctic claim rests not only on scientific work and a continuing physical presence, but on the level of Australia's cultural and political engagement with Antarctica. This research project will contribute, in a profound way, to the nation's international responsibilities to Antarctica. Though natural selection is central to answering this question, important new work has identified various conditions that make some lineages of organisms "evolvable": capable of changing in ways that radically expand the range of further possible changes. The effect of physical activity and a structured exercise program on the psychological and physical development of Australian primary school children. This study will explore the effects of early childhood physical activity on development. Our study will assess quantitatively the beneficial effects of exercise on personal and physical growth in young children in a non-intimidating way using a specifically designed exercise program.
Citizen engagement: Listening to citizens' views about Australia's health system and prevention. This project will yield new and important perspectives from citizens on preventive health and health promotion, which can be used to develop better targeted and more effective prevention and promotion policies and strategies. Drawing upon environmental history, history of science and cultural history, we aim to go beyond a catalogue of weather events or climatic obsessions, to explore how the meanings of weather and climate are themselves constructed through the interaction of science, nature and society.
