It addresses the urgent need in law for a more sophisticated understanding and evaluation of the practices of media professionals. This project will examine defamation law, journalism and public debate in three core members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations: Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. With the cost of a criminal jury trial running well in excess of $20,000 per day, policy-makers are keen to find ways of improving the efficiency of criminal trials.
