Open justice and open secrets: the cultural afterlife of criminal evidence. This project explores the consequences of using criminal evidence in the cultural field, after the conclusion of the trial. It investigates whether an appropriate regulatory or ethical framework can be developed in response to challenging or controversial re-deployments of this material by artists, curators, journalists, scholars and others.
Technology facilitated sexual violence and harassment: violence against women in cyberspace and the implications for legislative and policy reform. This project will investigate technology facilitated sexual violence and harassment. It will provide a comprehensive assessment of the nature, scope and impacts of these harms, and develop recommendations for law and policy reform based on rigorous empirical evidence.
Investigating the Coronial Determination of Suicide as a Category of Death. Data for suicide statistics can only come from official findings of suicide by a coroner, but this is a finding they are often reluctant to reach. Revenge pornography is a serious criminal justice problem, but only one Australian jurisdiction has introduced legislation to address the issue. Applicable laws here and elsewhere are inconsistent and inadequate. In this study, Australia's 37 counter-terrorism prosecutions are examined to answer the question: 'is Australia becoming a "security" or "surveillance" society?'
