Detection And Management Of Depression In General Practice Patients With Chronic Manifestations Of Ischaemic Heart Disea
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$499,797.00
Summary
This research will investigate the impact of ischemic heart disease on the prevalence and severity of patients with depression. This will be done via a 12 month general practice based program of 1) systematic screening for depression 2) informing general practitioners of best-practice guidelines for management of depression in these patients, and 3) providing the treating general practitioner with patient-specific, psychiatric advice.
The Diamond Cohort Study - Long Term Outcomes Of Depressive Symptoms In Primary Care
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$567,538.00
Summary
The diamond study follows what happens to almost 800 people with depressive symptoms whom attend general practice for care over 5 years of their life. This study will map the severity of depressive symptoms, life circumstances, use of health care services and treatments and allow us to understand factors associated with relapse and recovery from depression in order to improve care. This will assist us to develop models of care that better suit the needs of people experiencing depressive symptoms ....The diamond study follows what happens to almost 800 people with depressive symptoms whom attend general practice for care over 5 years of their life. Summary
Aboriginal community controlled health services and private general practice need to work together to close the gap. This practice-based cultural respect program and toolkit establishes a care partnership, with Aboriginal cultural mentors, to support strategies to embed cultural respect in general practices on an ongoing basis. Success indicators include a cultural quotient measure, performance of Aboriginal health checks and management of risk factors. The program may also benefit cross-cultura ....Aboriginal community controlled health services and private general practice need to work together to close the gap. HARMONY: A Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial Of A Whole Of General Practice Intervention To Prevent And Reduce Domestic Violence Among Migrant And Refugee Communities
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$595,289.00
Summary
Migrant and refugee victims of domestic violence (DV) are at grave risk of harm and murder and under-identified in primary care. The Harmony partnership builds on evidence-based models of DV response, to trial an innovative intervention of culturally competent and safe care in general practices with significant numbers of migrant patients. Harmony will result in data platforms that enhance assessment and care plans for DV victims, and safer outcomes for those from vulnerable populations.
Shared Team Approach Between Nurses And Doctors For Improved Risk Factor Management (STAND FIRM)
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$1,945,676.00
Summary
There are many proven treatments for preventing people with stroke from having a recurrent event, e.g. maintaining blood pressure at acceptable levels. However, uptake of therapies is poor. We will assess whether patients receiving individualised management plans, prepared and administered by both doctors and nurses will have risk factors controlled better than those receiving usual care. The plan includes education of patients to help them have more control over their own care.
Gravitational-wave astrophysics of binary black holes. Do black holes live alone, or form lasting gravitational partnerships? This question is of immense significance to astronomers. The emerging field of gravitational-wave astronomy is set to provide the answers. This project aims to develop innovative strategies to search for black hole pairs using leading technologies built with Australian expertise.
A mathematical analysis of the influence of small scale inhomogeneities on the evolution of the universe. A fundamental unresolved problem in modern cosmology is to quantify the influence of small-scale inhomogeneities on the evolution of the universe. This project will develop the mathematical techniques required to resolve this question. In addition, these techniques will have important applications to the analysis of astronomical data.
Gravitating relativistic material bodies: A mathematical analysis. This project aims to establish the local-in-time existence and geometric uniqueness of solutions to the Einstein-Elastic equations representing systems of gravitating relativistic material bodies, and to understand the long-time behaviour of these solutions. In spite of their importance to astrophysics, almost nothing is known about the mathematical properties of solutions to the equations of motion governing gravitating systems ....Gravitating relativistic material bodies: A mathematical analysis. This project aims to establish the local-in-time existence and geometric uniqueness of solutions to the Einstein-Elastic equations representing systems of gravitating relativistic material bodies, and to understand the long-time behaviour of these solutions. In spite of their importance to astrophysics, almost nothing is known about the mathematical properties of solutions to the equations of motion governing gravitating systems of relativistic material bodies. This project would provide mathematical tools for the study of gravitating relativistic material bodies and provide guidance on developing stable numerical schemes for simulations that are essential for comparing theory with experiment. This would significantly improve current understanding of the behaviour of matter and gravitational fields near the matter-vacuum boundary of bodies and help understanding of the physics of these boundaries.Read moreRead less
A Transdimensional Approach to Gravitational-Wave Astronomy. This project uses ripples in the fabric of spacetime––gravitational waves––to understand the cosmos and the fundamental nature of reality. We aim to discover new sources of gravitational waves from exploding stars. Using gravitational waves from colliding black holes, we aim to uncover new physics beyond Einstein's theory of general relativity. To achieve these goals we will develop tools from the cutting-edge of data science.
