    Australian Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $563,390.00
    Summary
Shared picosecond-laser facility. This project aims to extend the Shared Picosecond Laser Facility to include picosecond-pulse technology and to incorporate new consortium members. The Facility, shared among members at four universities and building on over 23 years of collaboration, continues to provide access to state-of-the-art lasers. The Facility will take advantage of its bulk purchasing power to negotiate significant discounts, extended warranties and maintenance contracts. The new lasers .... The new lasers will enable access to picosecond timescales and facilitate complex multi-laser experiments in a wide variety of projects including reaction dynamics, materials chemistry and photovoltaics.

Reforming of Liquid Hydrocarbon Fuels for Application in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Technology. The project will aim at developing a fuel processing system for solid oxide fuel cells which will have the advantages of being fuel flexible through the conversion of liquid fuels (gasoline, LPG, diesel) for application in small to medium stationary power generation systems. This investigation will also generate fundamental information and understanding concerning the catalytic reforming of liquid hydroca .... This investigation will also generate fundamental information and understanding concerning the catalytic reforming of liquid hydrocarbon fuels to produce adequate feeds for SOFCs. These distributed energy devices are of high efficiency and with a novel technology the industrial partner will aim to offer products with high value propositions in the critical areas of price, reliability and service.

Deep ocean thermodynamics and climate change. This project aims to obtain new insights into the thermodynamic and transport properties of mixtures containing water, particularly at high pressures, that impact directly on our understanding of climate change processes. This project aims to obtain new insights into the thermodynamic and transport properties of mixtures containing water, particularly at high pressures, that impact directly on our understanding of climate change processes. The project will involve the use of a polarisable potential for water which has recently been demonstrated to yield predictions of high accuracy. It will be used to model saline water mixtures containing carbon dioxide, resulting in valuable data for thermodynamic properties of the world's oceans. These data are of crucial importance for accurate climate change predictions and as such the project will have an important impact on understanding our changing environment.
