It will develop new tests to examine whether income accruing from different sources and accruing to different individuals are pooled so that the identity of the recipient or the source of the resource does not matter. While exchange rate movements are not readily predictable in the short run, long run changes in underlying real exchange rates are amenable to economic analysis using structural models. The analysis is based on a new rich body of theory which explicitly takes account of the spatial linkages and transport costs between firms and their markets.
