The project aims to discover the strategies by which cells in the brain interact with each other to code the sensory input efficiently. The project will provide a tool that will assist organizations wishing to understand the dynamics of a national economy to model it, and to forecast future econometric time series values. Such ability will provide another tool to econometric managers, including the Reserve Bank , Treasury and fund managers, that should benefit the Australian nation.
Business collective action, networks and discourse: a fiscal sociology of mining tax reform in Australia. The mining tax revolt in 2010 was a landmark event in government-business relations in Australia, acknowledged by multinational corporations and governments around the world for its broader ramifications. This project is the first systematic study of what happened, and its implications for our understanding of government-business relations.
Modelling and distributed control of large infrastructure networks. The main outcome of this project will be the capability to study systematically basic questions on the operation of large infrastructure systems. Methodologies for control of larger systems and security issues will be developed. Application of the techniques to several applications areas will include power grids and traffic networks.

Existence and Stability of a Model for Three-Dimensional Toroidal Plasma Equilibria. There is great physical interest in modelling strongly non-axisymmetric toroidal plasmas, but fundamental existence problems have made rigorous numerical analysis so far impossible. We seek to overcome this by investigating a class of idealized, but physically motivated, magnetohydrodynamic equilibria with stepped pressure profiles for which existence in the neighbourhood of axisymmetry has been proven. The lack of large-size (greater than four inch) mask and ultra-low dose resist are the fundamental challenges for high-throughput radioisotope-powered parallel electron nano-lithography (RIPEL) systems. This project aims to realise a large-size RIPEL mask by using the ultra-light ....Radioisotope-powered Parallel Electron Lithography for High-throughput Nano-manufacturing. This project aims to realise rapid fabrication of controllable nano-devices over large areas with high throughput and low cost. The lack of large-size (greater than four inch) mask and ultra-low dose resist are the fundamental challenges for high-throughput radioisotope-powered parallel electron nano-lithography (RIPEL) systems. This project aims to realise a large-size RIPEL mask by using the ultra-light supporting material aerographite that has a state-of-the-art ratio value of Young's modulus to cubic density. It will also develop a new inorganic nanoparticle resist with ultra-low dose. These building blocks will enhance RIPEL's throughput by four orders of magnitude.
