Summary
The aim of my postdoctoral research is to develop skills in epidemiological and sexual health research dealing with large cohorts, and to produce data that will aid in the improvement of sexual health outcomes in the population. One study I will work on is The National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles, a population-based survey of 15,000 men and women covering a range of sexual and reproductive health outcomes, and measuring the prevalence of sexually transmissible infections.

Summary
Tuberculosis (TB) is the world’s leading infectious killer and more than half of TB cases occur in Australia’s region. I have developed a software program and used it to simulate improved TB control in eight countries across the world. In this fellowship, I will extend this program to allow simulation of TB transmission across multiple countries. This will allow me to compare the effects of TB control programs in Australia and overseas, as well as to re-estimate the global number of TB deaths.

Summary
Taking medication for depression varies by cultural groups. This project will examine how Indian-Australians and Anglo-Australians access and use antidepressant treatments from biomedicine and complementary and alternative medicine. The project looks at the effects of these medicines and treatments on the body and wellbeing and how some treatments could be integrated to deliver more holistic and culturally sensitive forms of care.
Almost every member of clinical staff in hospitals now carries a smartphone or tablet. These devices can improve staff performance when life-saving information such as reminders of complex procedures during medical emergencies are delivered in a clear way. This fellowship applies design processes used in other high-risk industries such as in military and nuclear power settings to devise ‘e-aids’ for clinicians to improve outcomes in health emergencies.

However methods for measuring patterns of use are not well developed nor utilised in policy.
