Funding Amount
$60,741.00
Summary
Despite high rates of injury, there is currently no way to accurately record injuries in community sport. To address this issue an online injury tracking system has been developed for community sports clubs. This research will test the utility of this system within community Australian football clubs and compare it with other injury recording methods. With better methods of injury recording, we will improve our understanding of injury risks. Monitoring The Gap Between Evidence And Vaccination Behaviour By Sampling The Location-specific Consumption Of Health Information From News And Social Media
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$476,648.00
Summary
Vaccination programs have saved millions of lives in the last decade but vaccine refusal threatens their success. We propose new methods for tracking social media to measure how people in different locations are exposed to different information about vaccines from the media and other sources. This will help us understand why some communities appear to be more susceptible to vaccine hesitancy, and help public health organisations more effectively address the problem of vaccine acceptance.
An Integrated Research Program In Clincial Toxicology Toxicovigilance And Treatment
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$568,892.00
Summary
Drug-related deaths in Australia account for 6.6% of all deaths (ABS 2009). In much of the rural Asia-Pacific, pesticide poisoning and snakebite are major problems. This research supports an integrated national and international clinical toxicology research program covering medicine and chemical poisoning, serious adverse drug reactions, snake and spider bite. Its focus is on the applied research needed to detect new problems and rapidly translate early findings into better treatment, regulation ....Drug-related deaths in Australia account for 6.6% of all deaths (ABS 2009). Global Data Mapping And Evaluation Of Needs, Capacities And Benchmarks In Organ Donation And Transplantation: Informing Effective Local And International Health Policy To Better Meet The Needs Of Patients
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$318,575.00
Summary
Global shortages of donor organs limit the provision of reliable and equitable access to solid organ transplantation. As a result, many are excluded from waiting lists, others deteriorate whilst awaiting transplantation, and some seek to purchase the needed organ. Countries have a responsibility to provide transplantation services sufficient to meet population need. This project evaluates international data for key interventions that may impact on waitlisting, donation and transplant practices.
Systems For Control And Tracking Of Infectious Diseases In A Globalised World
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$401,361.00
Summary
Infectious disease informatics now at the forefront of translational research due to the recent rapid growth of microbial genomics, significant advances in molecular diagnostics and increasing demands for real-time biosurveillance. This program of multidisciplinary research will redefine existing paradigms, develop novel systems for surveillance of biothreats and offer new insights into transmission dynamics of pathogens with epidemic potential in Australia.
Modelling the population impact of injury. This project aims to model the long-term, population impact of non-fatal injury through the use of cutting edge epidemiological modelling, sophisticated biostatistics, advanced econometrics, and geospatial analysis. The project will use population-based, linked longitudinal data to generate new knowledge about the long-term impacts of injury, cost of injury, and expected burden into the future. Through the multi-disciplinary and multi-national collaborations established, it is anticipated that this project may lead to future changes in public health and social policy, prioritisation of injury prevention efforts, and establish the capacity to evaluate injury interventions and policy shifts as they occur.Read moreRead less
