Summary
This study will identify the optimal and harmful interpregnancy intervals for a range of maternal and child outcomes in three high-income countries. With a study population of more than 7.5 million births and a longitudinal study design that matches pregnancies to the same women, this study will inform new interpregnancy interval recommendations for high-income countries that will lead to a reduction in avoidable excess morbidities attributable to uninformed pregnancy planning.
Collective Obligations and Partial Compliance. The research I would conduct is likely to have considerable impact at both the national and international level. Despite the lack of systematic work on the issues my projects tackles, the importance of those issues is now widely recognized, and so work on them is likely to be widely noted and discussed. Virtue with Aristotle: Recovering an Ancient Ethical Theory for Our Time. This project aims to show how Aristotle’s theory of virtue can guide our individual and collective attempts to live good human lives in challenging times. This project expects to produce the first comprehensive study of Aristotle’s concept of virtue in all three areas of human activity in which he applies it (moral action, theoretical cognition, and craft and artistic production) and to show its relevance for contemporary ....Virtue with Aristotle: Recovering an Ancient Ethical Theory for Our Time. Summary
Approximately 15% of adults have blockages or weakness of major arteries in the periphery, associated with impaired quality of life and a high mortality. Significant management deficiencies for these problems include limited diagnostic, prognostic and treatment options, as well as poor adoption of evidence based practice. The proposed national centre will bring together a group of experts in the field to instigate a number of initiatives to improve patient management.
Philosophical Foundations of Architectural Discourse. Philosophy is involved with architectural theory and practice morally as well as aesthetically. This project examines 'integrity,' 'identity' and 'character' as concepts arising out of concerns with value and commitment in moral philosophy and architecture. Rather than ethics pasted on to a profession, it discusses ways in which moral philosophy and architecture inform one another by analysing ways in which moral concepts ramify architectural ....Philosophical Foundations of Architectural Discourse. This project seeks to establish the foundations of a new discipline. Research will explore how architectural language - references to coherency and enclosure, planning and the designed whole - is implicit in philosophical concerns for moral integrity. This project aims to construct new ways of thinking through design, that is, to consider norms of human habitation more critically.
