Summary
This project will assist parents and carers of children affected by fetal alcohol exposure to manage their behaviour problems. It will utilise the widely researched and applied Australian program "Triple P", enhanced for these families. The project will take place in Fitzroy Crossing, WA, a community which has already shown great resourcefulness in addressing this problem. If successful, the current poor outlook for these children will be greatly improved.

We propose to develop an Indigenous Model of Mental Health Care (IMMHC) that encompasses psychological therapy and cultural healing practices developed in consultation with local, participating Indigenous communities, that will for the first time treat highly prevalent mood and anxiety disorders in Indigenous Australians.

Summary
This study aims to determine the feasibility of implementing a family-based intervention in an Indigenous community-controlled health service in rural NSW and it's level of acceptability to Indigenous patients. The expected main benefits of implementing the family-based intervention are increases in the percentage of Indigenous individuals with alcohol dependence entering and engaging in evidence-based treatment.

Summary
Despite the high burden of cardiovascular diseases among Indigenous Australians, few intervention trials have sought to evaluate novel approaches to reducing differential outcomes in this vulnerable group. The Central Australian Heart Protection Study seeks to test the effectiveness of a nurse-led, family based education and assessment program in reducing the incidence of poor outcomes in indigenous and non-indigenous patient’s following an Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS).

This proposal addresses agreed targets for closing the gap in Indigenous disadvantage outlined by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) in the National Indigenous Reform Agenda. The Aboriginal Families Study will help to determine organisational and service level factors leading to better health outcomes for Aboriginal women and families during and after pregnancy and inform the implementation of COAG funded maternal and child health initiatives in South Australia and nationally

This project aims to provide new knowledge about the nature, extent and effect of removals of babies from their parents in Australia. Removal is the highest level of intervention by the child protection system, and one which some mothers experienced on multiple occasions. The project will undertake a comprehensive exploration of the experiences of caregivers and develop a psychometrically tested tool to assist in identifying unmet needs.
