Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often have comorbid Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). This project will utilise the expertise of leading researchers in Australia and the Netherlands to investigate the genetic and diagnostic relationship between these two disorders utilising a large sample of twins and their siblings. We will examine the neuropsychological functioning in these groups of children in order to gain a better understanding of their genetic relationship. These findings will provide insight into the current DSM-IV classification of these disorders compared with other models used to investigate the relationship between poor motor coordination and ADHD.Read moreRead less
Application of Advanced Geomatic Techniques to Heritage Recording of Greek Antiquities. Heritage recording documents archaeological sites for the benefit of future research and also to assess site degradation. This project combines the latest laser scanning technology, available through the ARC-funded LASCAN consortium, with satellite-based and digital photogrammetric survey techniques to develop a unique methodology for precise 3D recording of such sites. This project combines the latest laser scanning technology, available through the ARC-funded LASCAN consortium, with satellite-based and digital photogrammetric survey techniques to develop a unique methodology for precise 3D recording of such sites. Records of archaeological test sites in Greece will contain unprecedented detail, comprising point clouds of greater than five million individual measurements, and spectral information in the infrared and visible wavebands. The large volume of data collected will be managed in a specially designed spatial database, accessible to the general public.Read moreRead less

Huge effort in the biological and medical sciences is spent in using simple software to laboriously mark, count and measure cells and structures in microscope images of samples. We could replace this incredibly inefficient process in many instances with single-shot size-map images of unstained samples. If depth selectivity can be added, we could perform non-invasive measurements on animals, making a huge reduction in their usage. We could assess thick tissues enabling early noninvasive diagnosis of malignancy in tumours in situ or muscle characterization for meat quality or muscular dystrophy. These benefits impact on research, animal ethics, and on health, and have commercial potential in life and medical sciences, and the meat industry.Read moreRead less
