Youth Leadership and the Future of Peace and Security. This project aims to investigate the roles youth play in building inclusive and durable peace at local and international levels. Brideprice, Conflict, and Violence Against Women in Asia. This study aims to investigate where, how and why brideprice facilitates armed conflict and violence against women. Emerging evidence shows paying high brideprice incentivises men to join armed groups, and global modelling correlates brideprice and armed conflict. However, despite the exorbitant sums exchanged as brideprice in many societies, the socio-economic mechanisms connecting brideprice and conflict are not well understood. In an age in which ongoing conflicts and tensions have very real ramifications for international and regional security, finding new and more effective ways to resolve international disputes is critical to ensuring Australia's ongoing security. Summary
Understanding Asia's fragile giants: empire, sovereignty and Chinese and Indian security perceptions and strategies in the Asian century. Northeast Asia and South Asia are two crucially important regions for Australia. Investigating how international orders evolved in both regions from 1650 to the present, this project will reveal the deep historical drivers of current Chinese and Indian security perceptions and strategies, helping us to better navigate the challenges of the Asian century.

Does transitional justice make a difference? Implications for the Asia-Pacific region. Despite the proliferation of human rights prosecutions and truth commissions, scholars know very little about whether such measures are actually effective in discouraging future human rights violations. This project answers this question by assessing the impact of human rights prosecutions and truth commissions on human rights practices.
Amnesties and peace accords in the Asia-Pacific. This project aims to produce a comprehensive empirical study of peace-settlement amnesties and their impact on democracy, human rights and long-term peace in the aftermath of violent con?ict. It combines a large-scale global study of all amnesties included in peace accords from 1980 to 2005 with four case studies drawn from the Asia-Paci?c region: Indonesia/Aceh; Papua New Guinea/Bougainville; East Timor; and the Solomon Islands. Drawing from European history, International Relations (IR) scholars have conventionally assumed that international systems tend towards a balance of power. IR scholars lack an explanation of when and why international systems tend towards balance of power or empire. This project aims to fill this knowledge gap. With US hegemony in doubt, and China rapidly rising, understanding what drives change in international systems is urgent.
