Summary
Arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions place an immense and growing burden on the world’s population. They affect 28% of Australians (>6.1 million people). With the support of CRE funding, the Australia and New Zealand Musculoskeletal (ANZMUSC) Clinical Trials Network will optimise musculoskeletal health through high quality, collaborative clinical research, building research capacity and effective transfer of research outcomes into clinical practice and health policy.
A new quality of life instrument with older people for economic evaluation. This project aims to develop and validate a new preference-based quality-of-life instrument with applications in aged-care. The new instrument will be developed with older people receiving aged care services, and will focus upon incorporating their values into the measurement and valuation of quality of life for economic evaluation. Summary
High quality, evidence-based guidelines for preventive activities and for the implementation of prevention in general practice have been developed by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and other bodies, yet available information suggests that many patients miss out on evidence-based preventive care. This project aims to evaluate current practice and develop a model of practice aimed at improving the implementation of preventive guidelines in general practice.
Financing aged care in Australia: Mitigating fiscal gaps and maintaining intergenerational equity. Aged care has been identified as a significant contributor to the growing fiscal problems predicted for Australian government finances during the next 10 to 20 years. Patient and nurse outcomes and the cost of nurses' turnover in Australian hospitals. An adequate supply of nurses is fundamental to all of the National Health Priority disease areas where quality care cannot be delivered without an adequate number of motivated nurses. Designing cost-effective methods of retaining nurses requires understanding reasons why they leave the workforce and the impact this has on patient care and system costs. The eight states and territories effectively provide eight 'natural experiments' in legal responses to prostitution - ranging from prohibition through almost complete decriminalisation, with varying degrees of regulation and control in between these extremes. This project will examine how different legal and police responses to prostitution may affect the health of sex workers. This project will examine how different legal and police responses to prostitution may affect the health of sex workers. These variable legal contexts guarantee international interest in this research. in addition this research team has extensive experience - dating back up to 20 years - in successfully researching even the most marginalised elements of the sex industry in Australia. By the conclusion of the project we will have assessed sex worker access to health promotion programs, including health services, in three states. We will be able to provide authorities with insights into the effects of prostitution laws and the enforcement of those laws on the health and welfare of sex workers.
