E-health communication strategy and design: evaluating the influence of new media interventions on the health of patients from vulnerable populations. We must learn how to make better use of new communication technologies to assist in preventative health care, especially to help those who are most vulnerable to poor health in our society. This project will design, implement and evaluate the impact of new communication interventions that can be used to improve the overall health of Australians.
Effectiveness of Intervention Strategies to Promote Physical Activity Among Insufficiently Active Adults. This project will determine the cost-effectiveness of 2 types of physical activity (PA) interventions based around the workplace. 480 participants will be randomly assigned to PA intervention groups or controls. Interventions are either a (1) self-regulated, pedometer-based program or a (2) semi-structured, 40-day initiation to more moderately-vigorous PA. Both are designed to increase self- ....Effectiveness of Intervention Strategies to Promote Physical Activity Among Insufficiently Active Adults. Both are designed to increase self-efficacy and impact on positive PA behaviours. Long-term, behavioural change and job-related outcomes will be evaluated by following participants for 12 months after the interventions.Read moreRead less

Food and trust. The health, well-being and productivity of Australian society is absolutely dependent on a trusted food system. By knowing more about consumer trust in the food system, and in expert advice, we can better tailor ways to improve communication about health and food. We may avoid the problems that have developed in countries where low public trust has damaged the effectiveness of the systems to keep food safe and healthy, and in government and industry efforts to promote better eating habits. We will also be able to compare results with those in Europe to gain an international perspective on food trust.Read moreRead less

Active Team – Examining An Online Social Networking Intervention To Increase Physical Activity In Controlled (RCT) And Ecological (ET) Settings
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$814,041.00
Summary
Lifestyle diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, are key health problems facing Australia. Effective, low-cost, mass-reach physical activity interventions are urgently needed. This project uses online social networks to deliver an innovative physical activity intervention. This project will determine how effective the software is in changing people’s lifestyle over 12 months, and whether viral marketing techniques can be used to disseminate the program on a mass scale.
Theorising and understanding how policy processes affect uptake of evidence on social determinants of health and equity in Australian health policy. Analysis of health sector policies, including detailed case studies, will determine how governments can shape policy and implementation processes to improve Australia’s health.

This project will provide direction for targeted suicide prevention strategies by quantifying the individual and environmental factors that place farmers at higher risk of suicide, as well as the protective factors that may buffer against suicide and suicidal behaviours.
Sustaining effective educational initiatives. This project aims to investigate how educational initiatives can be sustained over the long term. Schools and early childhood and care services deliver programmes to develop students' social and emotional wellbeing, promote mental health, prevent bullying and address eating disorders. However, effective initiatives often fade away when start-up resources run out. This project will review models of implementation and provide exemplars of good practice ....Sustaining effective educational initiatives.
