The impact of mass gathering events on emergency healthcare services. Mass gathering events (MGEs) occur frequently across Australia. The preparation of a MGE from an emergency healthcare service perspective is conducted with limited evidence to support decision-making. Using routinely collected data from Tourism and Events Queensland, Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Emergency Departments, and the Bureau of Meteorology, this research aims to determine the impact on ambulance and emergency department services in the vicinity of 750 planned MGEs over a five year period (2015 - 2019). This proposal aims to develop a unified computational framework which enables non-expert users to co-design and fabricate specialised physical activity sensors to address individualised sensing problems in applications such as rehabilitation, age-care and sports. This project addresses the crucial and vexed question of why gender inequality remains pervasive and persistent in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) workforces, despite substantial and wide-ranging efforts to effect change. Gender-based violence is a pervasive and damaging social issue. Timor-Leste, Australia’s nearest and most fragile neighbour, has an extremely high rate of violence against women.
