Productivity and work-life balance in technology-enabled virtual work environments. This project examines the impact of technology-enabled virtual work environments on the productivity and work-life balance of professional knowledge workers. Guidelines will be developed that improve organisational and individual outcomes for professional knowledge workers who use technology extensively in their interactions with others.
Streaming video media using semantic information. Delivering video over the Internet has posted a big problem. Video files are extremely big and need hours or even tens of hours to download. This is too long to wait for the content. Much research has been attempted over low-level structures such as coding, buffer, protocol, agent and server. These techniques are either not scalable or impractical. Much research has been attempted over low-level structures such as coding, buffer, protocol, agent and server. These techniques are either not scalable or impractical. This project aims to collaborate with CyberView on developing a high-level scheme of streaming video using semantic information. It breaks videos into shots and allows semantic browsing of the content. It also introduces intelligent agents with various behaviours.Read moreRead less

Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks bring a tremendous threat to web services on the Internet. Large amount of web services were pulled down worldwide by the DDoS attacks, with huge losses in business. Effective approaches to defeat DDoS attacks are desperately demanded. Most existing DDoS defense systems aim to only protect the victim network and are not fully integrated. In this project we propose a novel defense system to protect web services from DDoS attacks. Our system is one of the first systems that have a mixture deployment in both victim end and attack source end, and integrated capabilities of intrusion surveillance, traffic control, and traceback, thus achieve better control results over other mechanisms.Read moreRead less
Enhancing computer user productivity of integrated enterprise wide systems: an intervention study. This project addresses a critical issue in IT investment and productivity. Current theoretical models of user training and acceptance have not contributed to the effectiveness of implementing new integrated enterprise wide systems. This study will identify key indiviudal differences that predict user motivation to learn and utilize such systems under mandatory conditions. A longitudinal study in ....Enhancing computer user productivity of integrated enterprise wide systems: an intervention study. A longitudinal study in two field settings will test the impact of selected interventions on task performance following training. The outcomes will inform Australian industry on models of effective implementation and provide guidance to increase the productivity of personnel using software systems.Read moreRead less
Understanding the impact of enterprise system use on system performance. To optimise organizational benefits, resource intensive enterprise systems must be appropriately used by all user cohorts. This study investigates the impact of system-use on system success. System-use patterns derived for all key user cohorts across the lifecycle phases will create management matrices to assist organizations maximise system-use.

An ERP implementation is a significant organisational intervention and its success is affected by many variables including the organisation's culture, decision-making strategies, risk taking orientation, leadership strategies and perceptions of the value of Information Technology. We seek to develop a organisational behaviour modification program in order to position the firm to succeed by overcoming barriers in these elements. We will (1) identify key variables that inhibit an ERP implementation; (2) develop strategies to orient the organisation to achieve business benefit from the ERP implementation; and (3) track the effectiveness of these strategies through a program of participative action research.Read moreRead less

IOS are becoming increasingly important for organisations to remain competitive in a global marketplace. By using organisational motivations to better understand how to design and structure the processes for IOS implementation and set more realistic expectation, Australian organisations will be able to develop more effective, evidence-based methods for IOS implementation. The theory being tested is an original contribution in a growing area of information technology research. The data and rigorously tested research protocols developed will enhance Australia'a research standing, contribute to university teaching and researcher training, and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Australian information technology industry. This study proposes to provide an innovative Virtual Organisation perspective to identify factors that can assist Australian government agencies to maximise the potential benefits from Enterprise System (ES) implementation. Study aims include: Identify and explicate major characteristics of the Virtual Organisation created through collaboration between government agency and (external) ES Implementation Partner; Identify and document features and constraints peculiar to ES implementation in the Australian public sector; Identify and explicate factors impacting on benefits realisation, relating these to theory from related fields; Highlight consensus and difference among stakeholders; Develop a validated, repeatable methodology for major impact studies; Inform ES research directions.Read moreRead less
Privacy-Preserving Remote Access to Health Information Infrastructure in Ubiquitous Computing Environments. The project's benefits can be summarised as follows. (a) The project will provide new solutions that enable remote access to health-care data in a secure and privacy-preserving manner. (b) This will improve health care services in northern metropolitan Melbourne, and provide shorter medical response time, which is particularly important in emergency scenarios. (a) The project will provide new solutions that enable remote access to health-care data in a secure and privacy-preserving manner. (b) This will improve health care services in northern metropolitan Melbourne, and provide shorter medical response time, which is particularly important in emergency scenarios. (c) It will exemplify advanced IT support for health care, which can be utilised by other providers. (d) The project will make a direct link between IT research and its industrial application. (e) The project will also give the opportunity to a postdoctoral researcher and PhD students to perform leading edge research on privacy protection of information in an industrial environment.Read moreRead less
Reconceptualising the information system as a service. Through parallel efforts in Australia and China, the study aims to propel 'IS-Impact', the Australia-originated and most extensively validated IS success measurement model, to become the Information Systems evaluation approach of choice globally, in both research and practice.
