I am a lipid biochemist-cell biologist determining the molecular mechanisms of disorders of lipid metabolism and developing treatments for such disorders. The diseases where lipid metabolism plays a key role include cardiovascular diseases (such as coronary artery disease), metabolic disorders (such as diabetes), some infectious diseases (such as HIV) and neurological disorders (such as Alzheimer disease).

The major preoccupation of biology in the last decade has been the sequencing of the genomes of humans and important animal, plant, bacterial and viral organisms. With the completion of these projects, focus has shifted to understanding the molecular networks that regulate the biochemical, cellular and physiological processes that maintain health and the changes to these networks that lead to the onset and progression of disease. With the completion of these projects, focus has shifted to understanding the molecular networks that regulate the biochemical, cellular and physiological processes that maintain health and the changes to these networks that lead to the onset and progression of disease. Within this fluid research landscape, my principal career goal over the next 5 years is to ensure that, during a period of generational change at WEHI, its iconic molecular haematology team continues to flourish. Realizing this goal will allow us to use knowledge of the molecular determinants of health and disease to improve clinical outcomes of poorly treated conditions and in doing so improve the lives of patients and the health of the Australian economy.Read moreRead less
A physiologist describing metabolic pathways and mechanisms that regulate lipoprotein metabolism in in vitro and in vivo systems. My research uses complex tracer studies and mathematical modelling to identify and quantitate pathways of lipid metabolism in normal and diseased states prior to and following lifestyle and-or pharmacological interventions.
I am a biochemist determining how metabolism is controlled in response to energy supply and demand. This is important in order to understanding how diet and exercise are beneficial to health.
I am a neuroscientist-biochemist-cell biologist determining the mechanisms by which lipids and lipid transporters regulate neurodegeneration and vascular disease. I have recently developed a prototype drug that shows promise as a novel therapeutic approach for Alzheimer's disease.
My research focuses on understanding the molecular regulation of blood cell production and function in health and disease with the ultimate goal of discovery of new treatments for blood cell diseases including leukaemia and autoimmunity.
My research activity is focused on the application of metabolomics to understand the role of lysosomes in health and disease. I have a major interest in understanding the molecular mechanisms of pathology resulting from lysosomal dysfunction. The outcomes
