The Internet based e-services are being used by many businesses as part of the modern e-business environment. Management of e-services over the Internet involves complex correlation of events, and their sequences over geographically dispersed networks, systems and software applications. The integration of management information is a challenging problem due to the semantic differences of services across different business sectors (e.g., healthcare, retail and telecommunications). This project aims to develop a new framework for the integrated management of networked services using multiple software agents; some of them are already a part of the current Internet infrastructure (e.g., search engines).Read moreRead less
Establishing a global framework to trace the provenance of seafood. The global importance and demand for seafood is higher than ever; yet, sustainable seafood production is threatened by seafood fraud. This research will develop a new technology that will trace the geographic origins of seafood from catch to table and empower authorities to combat fraud. In doing so, this research will use natural chemical variation in biominerals to build maps of ocean chemistry and create universal markers of ....Establishing a global framework to trace the provenance of seafood. The global importance and demand for seafood is higher than ever; yet, sustainable seafood production is threatened by seafood fraud. This research will develop a new technology that will trace the geographic origins of seafood from catch to table and empower authorities to combat fraud. In doing so, this research will use natural chemical variation in biominerals to build maps of ocean chemistry and create universal markers of seafood provenance. These markers will be intrinsically tamper-proof: enabling the chemical geolocation of seafood across international trade routes. The outcome of this research will address a global environmental challenge and, in doing so, deliver benefits to the Australian economy, consumer and environment. Read moreRead less
Unravelling the synergistic effect of ocean acidification and pore water advection on carbonate sediment dissolution: a global sink for CO2? The purpose of this project is to investigate the role of ocean acidification and pore water advection on the release of calcium and alkalinity from carbonate sediments. The expected outcomes of this project is a better understanding of the role of carbonate sediments in buffering ocean acidification and the uptake of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
Palladium Based Mobile Agent System for Collaborative Environments. This project aims to (a) develop a Palladium based mobile agent methodology and System for collaborative environments and to (b) construct a testbed that involves the creation of Palladium and mobile agent system to test it on "Virtual Community", that is, a real commercial application provided by our partner investigator for proof of concept.

This project aims to experimentally manipulate the design of artificial structures to achieve multipurpose ecological objectives. Artificial structures such as buildings and roads have featured in terrestrial urban landscapes for many years, but have only more recently begun encroaching on aquatic environments. Most marine artificial structures lack the innovative design solutions required to mitigate their ecological impacts and provide essential ecosystem services such as pollution abatement. This project will investigate the efficacy of these designs with both classical measures of diversity and structure and novel measures of ecosystem function. The project aims to provide essential information to inform the design of future marine urban developments.Read moreRead less
The role of natural selection in macroevolution: a case study examining convergence of form and function in marine predator guilds. Darwin's theory of evolution natural selection is one of the most successful in the history of science and provides the framework for modern biology: however, areas of debate or uncertainty are often misinterpreted by non-scientists as indication of fundamental flaws in the theory. New 'hi-tech' tools provide the opportunity to re-examine these areas, and also to demonstrate the process of science to the public. The new tool is Computational Biomechanics, the future of studying biological form, and this project will further develop the leading role of Australian research in this technology which has applications for palaeontology, environmental management, medical science, and the next generation of engineering using 'biomaterials'.Read moreRead less

Detriments in human functional state is a major problem in the 'round the clock' transportation industries such as heavy-vehicle industry and aviation. The repetitive and monotonous nature of the tasks in these environments lead to fatigue, inattention and stress. This project proposes a unique and innovative SmartData system that will interact with operators and their working environment to counteract detriments in human performance. The proposed SmartData system will have the capabilities of alerting and warning of potentially hazardous situations associated with degradations in human performance. This innovative project aims to improve the safety culture of two major transportation sectors.Read moreRead less

This project focuses on market segmentation and planning strategy through the development of under-used geo-referenced data sources. Specifically, the project seeks to combine two key market intelligence software tools (Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Data Mining Systems) with the primary focus being on the Australian automobile industry. Spatial data mining approaches will be used to sift through massive volumes of data, uncover patterns, and generate knowledge through effective database management techniques. This research will open new inter-disciplinary frontiers between marketing and GIS, with the outcomes expected to provide valuable information for decision makers at the academic, industry and governmental levels.Read moreRead less

The Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII) will lead the development of an online global legal research facility ('WorldLII' - the World Legal Information Institute), in cooperation with an international consortium of other free access providers of legal information. While doing so, we will extend the quantity and quality of AustLII as Australia's only national legal research infrastructure, and integrate its content into the emerging WorldLII global structure and standards. The result will be a comprehensive system for global Internet legal research. All Australian legal researchers will benefit.Read moreRead less
Next generation real-time trajectory mining for travel and transportation decision support. Mining human and vehicle trajectories in real time will enable a suite of next-generation applications such as traffic overload prediction, real-time event detection and route recommendation. This project will develop novel techniques for immediate mining of massive volumes of trajectory data as it is being continuously generated.
