Child safety in cars: an international collaboration. Car crashes are the leading cause of child death in Australia. While child restraints offer good protection, their benefits are significantly diminished if used incorrectly. This project will examine children’s out-of-position during car trips and injury implications and will reduce injury through improved engineering and education solutions.

The aim of this project is to determine how the economic and cultural value of artistic and cultural enterprises is created, transmitted and received, with application to the live theatre. A comparative analysis of gambling regulation in Australian states and territories. This project will be the first systematic and comprehensive evaluation of Australian gambling regulation. Research is in response to incidents of regulatory failure, fragmentation and inconsistency in the gambling regulatory frameworks of states/territories and calls by the Productivity Commission for rigorous and independent review. Assessing the effectiveness, acceptability and sustainability of a culturally adapted evidence-based intervention for Indigenous parents. This project will explore a partnership model for capacity building in Indigenous child protection services. It will also evaluate the effectiveness, acceptability and sustainability of a culturally adapted evidence-based parenting program designed to reduce family risk factors and child behavioural and emotional problems in Indigenous families.

Using mixed methods, this project aims to develop knowledge partnerships with Indigenous communities in three regions across northern Australia to build on understandings of how to respond to alcohol misuse more effectively, ensuring that alcohol is managed in ways that are relevant and useful to communities in a wide range of contexts. Alcohol is a major cause of social, legal and health concerns for Indigenous Australian ....Alcohol management in Indigenous north Australia: policies and responses. This has led to significant political involvement in the regulation of alcohol in communities where Australian Indigenous people live. Alcohol management plans have most recently been used as a central device for reducing alcohol-related harms, particularly in remote areas. Indigenous societies, governance and wellbeing: a study of Indigenous community success in addressing disadvantage and promoting wellbeing. This is the first in-depth place-based Australian study of Indigenous community 'success' in overcoming disadvantage and promoting well being across all seven National Indigenous Reform Agreement (Closing the Gap) 'building blocks'. It will provide invaluable insights about the relationship between Indigenous governance and wellbeing in Australia.
‘Grantsmanship’ in the social sciences: an international comparative study. University-based social scientists spend considerable time each year applying for competitive research grants.
