Summary
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a serious medical disorder with a high public health cost. OSA can be effectively treated but poor treatment compliance is a major clinical problem. As a consequence many OSA patients remain untreated, with significant implications for their long term health. New effective and safe therapies are needed. We believe that we will demonstrate a relatively straightforward, safe and effective surgical procedure for OSA after primary treatments fail. Strengthening the evidence: how community-based Indigenous health and wellbeing interventions work to improve policy and practice. Indigenous Australians suffer high rates of premature morbidity and mortality. Despite the need for programs to improve Indigenous health and wellbeing, there is little evidence to indicate which community-based programs are effective and why they are effective. This research program addresses this 'need-evidence' gap to inform policy and practice.

This project aims to model entrepreneurial resilience, its formation and its influence on how creative transformation occurs, and whether ex ante adaptive capacity is in turn enhanced by having mastered crises. People accessing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) are required to complete a personalised service plan, however despite these reforms, people in rural and remote communities currently experience many challenges with the scheme. These biopolymers offer enormous potential for use as renewable and biodegradable thermoplastics.
It is proposed to investigate two process configurations, namely the sequencing batch reactor and a continuous two step anaerobic-aerobic reaction system. These will be studied at bench-scale. The outcomes include:
1. Determination of the optimum microbial conditions and key growth
parameters for the production of PHA.
2. Optimisation of the process configuration, operating strategies
and operating conditions to maximise the
production of PHA.
3. Assessment of the influence of the feed composition (e.g. VFA)
on the PHA composition (PHB/PHV).
