In the last decade, technological advances have driven the study of biology towards the statistical and computational sciences. Researchers are now able to differentiate and quantify biomolecules at levels previously unimaginable, allowing us to study their interactions and relationships to health and disease in an unbiased, systems-level manner. With expertise in bioinformatics, biostatistics and systems biology, I am uniquely placed to address these challenges.

Summary
Pancreatic cancer is the 4th most common cause of cancer death in Australia. The causes of this disease are largely unknown. I am conducting research designed to understand genetic and environmental causes of pancreatic cancer. Skin cancer occurs more frequently than any other cancer in Australia. Sunlight is the most common cause but it is also possible that human papilloma viruses may play a role. If high risk types of this virus can be identified, new preventive strategies may be developed.
Understanding And Preventing Population-level Harm From Alcohol

Summary
This project will support Dr Livingston's world-leading work to better understand the reasons that alcohol consumption and related-harm changes at the population level. It will also support projects that will directly assess the impact of changes to alcohol policies in Australia and the development of policy simulation models, to provide critical evidence and ensure well-informed policy decisions can be made to reduce alcohol-related harm.
