Monogamy is relatively common among Australian gay men and yet relatively under researched or explored. At present we know little about the motivations of Australian gay men to enter and maintain monogamous relationships. This study will bring into clear view a phenomenon, and social and intimate practice, that has been almost entirely overlooked and will significantly advance our understanding of the dynamics of gay men's sexual behaviour and sexual cultures.

Sepsis is a major clinical problem that causes more deaths in Australia than breast, prostate or colon cancer. The deaths result from an overwhelming systemic inflammatory response to infection. We have discovered that this response is dependent on an enzyme called GSTO1-1 and that inhibitors can block the inflammatory response . In this study we will identify new drug like compounds that can inhibit GSTO1-1 and prevent death from sepsis.

Summary
We have discovered that a protein that is recognized for its role in phase II detoxification can also modify the calcium signaling that underlies heart function. The small part of the protein that is active in heart tissue differs from the enzyme center that supports detoxification and can thus be used as a therapeutic agent in heart failure and in genetic cardiac conditions. The project is to develop the cardio-active part of the protein for maximum efficacy and for eventual clinical use.

This study will establish a cohort of 2250 young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from urban, rural and remote communities aged 10 to 24 years. The study will provide longitudinal data on the health status and health trajectories of this group of young Australians who experience poorer health outcomes compared with other young Australians. The proposed study will explored the determinants of health status, how these factors change over time and opportunities for prevention.

Children use school canteens to purchase food more frequently than any other food outlet. Online canteens, where school lunches are ordered via the web, are increasingly prevalent in Australian schools. The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of integrating consumer behaviour strategies (such as menu labelling, promoting and product positioning) into an online canteen ordering system in reducing the total energy, saturated fat, sugar and sodium content of student lunch orders.
