Summary
Neuropathy patients suffer from tingling, pain, numbness, spontaneous muscle contraction and cramp. The symptoms reflect abnormal activation of the nerve involved. It is known that an external agitation can worsen them, like in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). This study aims to investigate if changes in function of axonal membrane ion channel play any part in the symptoms. This will be done by comparing axonal membrane ion channel functions of healthy and CTS patients under external stimuli.

Summary
Queensland has the highest recorded rates of skin cancer in the world. Invasion into nearby nerves or �perineural invasion� occurs in approximately 5% of cases. This signifies that the tumour is aggressive and able to spread along nerves back to the brain and reduce survival. Why some tumours invade nerves remains unclear. This project will study the factors involved and the characteristics of affected patients to enable a better understanding of the disease and potentially improve treatment.

Summary
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction allows most people to return to their previous level of function, but does not prevent the onset of knee osteoarthritis (OA). The development of OA in young people after ACL reconstruction may be caused by the initial injury, altered movement patterns, or changes in muscle control. This study will investigate the relationship between these factors. The findings will help to improve understanding of the causes of OA following ACL reconstruction.

Summary
Metastatic (secondary) cancers are a frequent cause of patient mortality. Central to the development of metastasis is cell motility-movement. A key component of cell movement is the way that cells bind and release the extra-cellular matrix as they move. By understanding how the dynamics of cell interaction with the matrix are regulated, we will identify molecules that are critical to the development of metastatic cancer and thus novel targets for inhibition of metastasis.
