Inter-user interference is becoming the dominant bottleneck in state-of-the-art wireless networks. This project aims to address this bottleneck problem by studying a new paradigm, referred to as a Distributed-Input Distributed-Output (DIDO) wireless system, which makes the best use of interference. Results from information theory and modern coding techniques will be advanced to develop new design principles and novel physical-layer coding techniques of DIDO systems, leading to substantially improved throughput, reliability, energy efficiency and robustness. This project aims to develop fundamentally enhanced wireless infrastructure with targeted applications in cellular and wireless networks, satellite communications and wireless sensor networks.Read moreRead less

Mobile ad hoc networks, a new emerging wireless networking paradigm, poses challenging problems in security, due to its dynamic nature and lack of centralised infrastructure, for which no adequate solutions exist today. This research addresses theory and design of secure mobile ad hoc networks. It achieves conceptual advances in terms of new security models for distributed location management, mobile authentication and multicasting; it proposes novel dynamic group key management and denial of service protection schemes, develops new security mechanisms for ad hoc routing, provides new insights into formal reasoning of security and demonstrates and evaluates practical secure wireless mobile applications.Read moreRead less
New strategies to transmit data: Coping with exponential growth in demand. The aim of this project is to provide new technologies to facilitate the exponential growth in demand for streaming of digital data. Based on novel techniques combining graph theory, information theory, and coding, this project aims to change the way we encode data, offering significant improvements to the efficiency of communication networks and providing a 10-100 fold increase in transmission speed. If successful this p ....New strategies to transmit data: Coping with exponential growth in demand. If successful this project expects to bring digital transmission improvements which could impact on almost every sector of the economy from education to advanced healthcare. Possible applications include cloud storage for big data, high-definition video streaming, and wide-coverage high-speed mobile broadband.Read moreRead less
Compression of distributed data: bridging the gap between theory and practice. In bushfire and tsunami early warning systems, environmental monitoring and healthcare applications, distributed sensors collect and transmit correlated data. This project will design novel data compression algorithms that exploit this correlation to dramatically increase the performance of existing networks and enable new applications.
Security Techniques against Denial of Service Attacks in Networked Systems. As more and more business opportunities are created over the Internet, dealing with network-based intrusions and denial of service (DoS) attacks is becoming increasingly critical (as witnessed recently last year). As more and more business opportunities are created over the Internet, dealing with network-based intrusions and denial of service (DoS) attacks is becoming increasingly critical (as witnessed recently last year). The proposed research addresses systematically the theory and analysis of DoS attacks and develops new techniques and practical solutions to counteract them. We will investigate a hybrid method to counteract DoS, propose a new technique to identify malicious packets in the Internet to handle distributed DoS, consider a new approach using smart packets and develop enhancements to intrusion detection systems using data mining. Proposed techniques are analysed in practical situations.Read moreRead less
Sequential attribute-based encryption: new cryptographic framework, constructions and applications towards cloud security. The purpose of this project is to find niche and significant techniques to preserve the order of attributes in modern cryptography. Novel cryptographic techniques applicable to securing important areas, such as cloud computing and anonymous credential systems will be developed, which will lead to commercialisation.
Practical unified framework for secure e-consent mechanism for health records. This project is driven by modern applications of cryptography and network security and their applications in securing e-health by enabling secure Personal Health Records (PHRs), which will play an important role in the future healthcare industry.
Achieving security and privacy in radio frequency identification (RFID) with lightweight security technologies. Secure RFID technology to achieve reliable identification is essential for protecting critical information infrastructures. However, they are prone to security attacks due to difficulties in protecting RFID systems. This project will develop new lightweight security techniques to achieve practical security solutions for RFID.
