Oceans Law and Policy Library. This project will establish a library facility providing a comprehensive collection of international and domestic primary and secondary source materials in ocean law and policy. Materials will be both hard copy and electronic, facilitating access of materials from remote locations by partner institutions. The library will be located at the University of Wollongong, an international leader in oceans law and policy research, through the Centre for Maritime Policy. ....Oceans Law and Policy Library. This project will establish a library facility providing a comprehensive collection of international and domestic primary and secondary source materials in ocean law and policy. Materials will be both hard copy and electronic, facilitating access of materials from remote locations by partner institutions. The library will be located at the University of Wollongong, an international leader in oceans law and policy research, through the Centre for Maritime Policy. The partner universities are home to the principal centres of marine scientific research in Australia. Bushfires, smoke, and people: assessing the risks and benefits from planned burning on the urban-rural interface. A key strategy to protect people from wildfire is the use of planned burns to reduce fire hazards. The exposure of communities to smoke pollution is a serious side-effect of this intervention. This project will be critical in enabling authorities to protect public health by determining acceptable levels of smoke originating from planned burns.
Carbon in - carbon out: can carbon inputs keep up with losses in peatland? This project aims to quantify the current and predict the future carbon balance of a high altitude, carbon-dense ecosystem, namely sub-alpine grassy peatland, by measuring how environmental variables including experimental warming control the fluxes of carbon and water into and out of the system. In this way, this project will produce new knowledge on the susceptibility of high-altitude peaty soils to climate change.
