Summary
Preeclampsia, a major pregnancy complication, affects ~3-8% of pregnancies. There is no cure. We have developed new strategies to tackle the disease, including delivery of agents specifically to the placenta and repurposing drugs safe in pregnancy. We will test whether these strategies can quench disease in models developed in our laboratory, and examine samples from women who participated in clinical trial to treat preeclampsia. This offers new possibilities in the management of preeclampsia.

Summary
Many leukemias are caused by particular signalling molecules becoming too active in blood cells. My research focusses on the molecules that are required by leukemic cells for their growth and survival. I will use mice that are prone to developing leukemia to study how these leukemias can be treated with drugs that block specific molecules. My goal is to discover new ways to treat leukemias that work better and have fewer side effects than current treatments.
Discovery, Preclinical And Translational Research In Endometrial Cancer

Summary
My research program is focused on “bench to bedside” translational research in uterine cancer. Specifically, identifying the genetic aberrations underlying the development of uterine cancer, understanding the function of these genes in normal and cancer cells, providing proof of principle data that drugs targeting these defective proteins induce cancer cell death in vitro and in vivo and identifying factors associated with whether a patient will respond to one particular treatment over another.

During this fellowship, we will be developing new treatments and clinical tests for three important complications of pregnancy. We will run clinical trials of a new medication based treatment to cure ectopic pregnancies. We will also develop a blood test that can identify those babies still in the womb but suffering dangerously low oxygen levels.
