Summary
Children of preschool age and older demonstrate social problems after a traumatic brain injury (TBI). What effect a TBI has on the social function of young children (before 3 years) is currently unknown but is thought that these children have more problems than older children do. This study will look at how a TBI impacts on the social function of young children and the role of cognition and brain development in social function will also be explored.

Summary
Since 1983, a large number of children have been conceived with IVF and use of this technology is increasing. Few studies have examined the longer term health and development of these young people as they progress into adulthood. The proposed study will investigate outcomes for IVF conceived young adults as compared to their spontaneously conceived peers. The study will provide new information on the long term safety of IVF.
The Extent and Cost of Kinship Foster Care of Orphans in Rural China. This project will explore the extent of kinship foster care provided to orphaned children in rural China. It will also, for the first time, estimate the costs of kinship care, by modifying Australian budget standards research to suit conditions in rural China. There has been a lot of research to examine what works and what doesn't to increase healthy eating, physical activity and prevent childhood obesity, and programs conducted by local government have an important role to play. However, many who work in local government have not been trained in how to access research, nor do they have the time to search extensively for ....This study aims to increase the use of evidence in the development of programs for childhood obesity prevention by local government. There has been a lot of research to examine what works and what doesn't to increase healthy eating, physical activity and prevent childhood obesity, and programs conducted by local government have an important role to play. However, many who work in local government have not been trained in how to access research, nor do they have the time to search extensively for it, or interpret what the results from studies conducted elsewhere may mean for them in the local context. This study aims to examine what are the most effective and cost effective methods to increase access to evidence, and to increase the adoption of evidence by those working in local government (eg planners, maternal and child health nurses, family day care, environmental planners etc) to address environmental factors (playgrounds, walkability and active transport, policies for sporting events, community gardens, sporting events, street closures), health and social services (parent education, access to health promotion and prevention programs, education initiatives, environmental policies). Comparable research on what works for knowledge translation has only been conducted in the clinical context, for example, hospital clinics, and it is difficult to generalise these findings to the community based public health setting and relevant programs.Read moreRead less

We will produce a tool to identify social impairments in children and adolescents. The tool, called PEERSTM (Paediatric Evaluation of Emotions, Relationships & Socialisation), is at the forefront of digital health, combining cutting edge research with technology for increased accuracy, speed and efficiencies within the healthcare system. It is: i) based on social neuroscience theory; ii) supported by poof-of-concept data; and iii) of high relevance to health professionals and educators.
