Thinking brains and bodies: distributed cognition and dynamic memory in Australian Dance Theatre. Creative thinking, learning and memory - key features of human cognition - will be investigated in the context of dance in this project. Complementary quantitative and qualitative methods will shed light on process and communication in the Australian Dance Theatre and the arts more broadly, and inform new accounts of thinking as embodied and distributed.

New media dramaturgy: how new media transform the composition and reception of live performance. New media dramaturgy will formulate a new framework for analysing and creating contemporary new media performance including multimedia theatre and dance, video performance and installation. The project will also explore how the synthesis of new dramaturgy and new media has changed the experience of live arts for the spectator.
Australian responses to the images and discourses of terrorism and the other: establishing a metric of fear. The world was changed on 9/11. Small-scale studies indicate half the Australian non-Muslim population is now anti-Muslim and up to 80% of Muslims are in a siege mentality. This research examines Australian perceptions of the other, of terrorism, of refugees and of fears about these. This project will conduct performance-oriented research into unresolved issues of French baroque performance practice and little-known French baroque repertoire. In addition to research resulting in scholarly publications, the project will comprise the editing and publishing of scores in modern notation, and the realisaton of the results of research in live performance and CD recordings.
