Australian television and popular memory: new approaches to the cultural history of the media in the project of nation-building. Despite its importance to our everyday lives since the 1950s, there is no history of television's role in Australian popular culture. This project will develop a series of collaborative histories that focus upon the popular experience of television and in particular its role in forming national culture. The national benefit of this project is both economic and socio-cultural. Economically, it investigates new ways to produce and distribute Australian creative content for local and export markets. It identifies how branch offices of global firms can be creative offices. It investigates agents along the length of the creative value chain - from authors to audiences - to determine the uses of creative fiction, identifying the features that attract / repel users of published fiction in these genres. Our people, our pictures, our voices: community representations of the Queensland land rights struggle, 1966-2010. This project tells the story of the Queensland land rights struggle through the eyes of Indigenous participants, their media and the broader newspaper industry. Its key public outcome is a multi-faceted book on the land rights movement; and new methodological and critical media analysis contributions to community media research.
