Understanding how professions are being disrupted and changed in knowledge-based economies is a social and economic imperative because professions are the creators and custodians of knowledge systems. This project investigates the process of disruption and change by examining how the impact of an environmental jolt on a profession unfolds over time through interplay between institutional, organisational and individual levels. Investigating a jolt caused by new regulation in emergency medicine, project outcomes will contribute new insight into multi-level change processes as they play out within professions and inside organisations. The outcomes will also inform health care management, professional practice, and government policymaking.Read moreRead less

Understanding the 'lived experience' of infants through innovative mosaic methodology. High quality childcare provision is a continuing policy challenge for the Australian Government. This study will increase public, professional and parental knowledge of what life in childcare is like for infants; assist parents to make informed choices about childcare; enhance carers' professional practice; and provide guidance to the National Childcare Accreditation Council and relevant government departments about how to improve the quality of infant childcare. It will also lead to better outcomes for infants and help to ensure their healthy start to life. Read moreRead less

The proposed research will compare the strikingly different justice regimes governing residential tenancy disputes over the last 3 decades in New South Wales. These regimes have ranged from the exclusively formal, or court-based, to a hybrid model (with some matters resolved by tribunals, others by the courts) and finally to an almost exclusively tribunal-governed system. This study seeks to compare the effectiveness of these various regimes in delivering justice to all parties. No such study has been conducted in Australia, and the results will provide a basis for informed decision on whether the latest model should remain the preferred one in a sector of the housing market catering for more than 25% of the population of NSW, a large proportion of whom are disadvantaged.Read moreRead less
