The presentation of expert evidence in Australian criminal trials: the role of lawyers and experts. This project will shed light on how courts, lawyers and experts can work effectively together to deliver expert evidence in the courtroom. Improving the provision and effective use of expert evidence will benefit the Australian community by providing a better quality criminal justice system.
A new kind of dynamics for psychology. In order to remain efficient in real-world decisions, people must dynamically monitor and adjust their cognitive processes. This project aims to develop innovative methods and analyses for dynamics in experimental psychology, using standard paradigms in which task parameters are dynamically manipulated. The development of models of dynamic behaviour will advance the science of psychology and serve as a practical measurement tool for individuals.
Do intentions predict health-related behaviours? Implications of method bias for the design of public health promotion programs. Each year millions of dollars are expended on public health initiatives to encourage healthier lifestyle behaviours, such as diet, exercise, smoking and sun-protection. This project will investigate the cumulative empirical evidence to evaluate the validity of the theories that purport to explain why people behave the way they do.
Reconnecting and engaging superannuation fund members. To understand the widely perceived disengagement of superannuation fund members, the project team will collaborate with UniSuper and the human resources departments of two large Australian universities on a large-scale, state-of-the-art experiment. This project will provide theoretical, and hands-on, advice to reconnect and engage fund members to enhance/improve retirement savings decisions.
The value of time during decisions. This project aims to investigate how people value time during decision making. Using an innovative combination of carefully designed experiments and state-of-the-art mathematical cognitive models, this project expects to generate new knowledge regarding how efficiently people allocate time when making decisions, the factors that allow people to perform optimally and those that lead to suboptimal performance. The Australian naturalistic driving study: innovation in road safety research and policy. A revolutionary new approach, the naturalistic driving study, will investigate what people actually do when they drive, in normal and safety-critical situations. It will provide Australia with answers to some intractable, high priority, road safety problems that cannot be answered using current methods, thereby saving hundreds of lives.

Integrated facility for recording driver and road user behaviour. The integrated facility will be used to record and analyse data on driver and road user behaviour, in normal and safety-critical situations, for thousands of Australian drivers. The data yielded will be used to develop new and improved countermeasures for reducing road deaths and serious injuries on Australian roads.
