Summary
It is estimated that more than 450 million people are suffering from a mental illness at any one time. Medications are the main method of treatment for people with mental illnesses. The types of medications used for mental illnesses are commonly associated with side effects and high rates of discontinuation. The aim of this research is to develop a pharmacy management service, in conjunction with other health care professionals, to help patients and their carers to manage their medications.

Diabetes is a growing epidemic, with diabetic retinopathy being one of its common complications. With an ageing population, the public health and economic impact associated with diabetes are expected to magnify. Among the risk factors for sub-optimal diabetes care, language proficiency and cultural differences have been indicated. However, there is little to no research into the barriers of diabetes care in Australia�s non-English speaking population, which is the purpose of the proposed study.

Cataract is the most common eye disease in the elderly population and cataract surgery is the most commonly pe formed eye surgery in the country. Preventing or delaying the onset of cataract will not only improve the quality of life of the elderly population but will also save a significant amount in the health care spending. In this study we aim to estimate the incidence of this disease amongst older Australians and identify possible preventable causes.
