Addition of nano scale entities, such as nanotubes, on the surface of a carbon fibre forms a bottle-brush like architecture and strengthens fibre-matrix interface. This project will pioneer development of a systematic approach for analysis and design of such multi-scale reinforced composite materials for use in aerospace and civil industries.

(1) Dynamics of gears for diagnostics and noise control
(2) Application of blind source separation techniques to mechanical problems
(3) Application of cyclostationary signal analysis techniques to machine diagnostics
(4) Determination of structural dynamic properties from response measure ....Development of the applications of signal processing to mechanical problems and machine diagnostics. It is intended to extend research collaboration in the following areas of interest to both UTC and UNSW:

To achieve this goal, advances will be made on source separation algorithms to extract the weak bearing signals, and signal processing techniques to extract features for diagnosing bearing fault severity and lubrication conditions, under a wide range of operating condition ....Vibration-based health monitoring of aero-engine bearings .
