Summary
The current primary focus of aged care in Australia is on the frail aged and end of life care. This project is designed to utilise evidence from earlier research into rural and regional ageing and work with aged care providers and programs to broaden their focus to one that supports older Australians to remain active, included, engaged and contributing members of their families and communities, regardless of age.

This research concerns the evidence-based development, national administration, and systematic evaluation of a targeted online dementia education intervention among clinical staff in regional and district hospitals. The research aims to improve knowledge of dementia among clinical staff, enhance patient outcomes, and reduce costs by addressing four outcome levels: clinical learning needs, learning outcomes, engagement and behaviour change, and organisational performance.

Dying well: Designing rural end-of-life services for chronic disease. This project aims to understand how existing rural service structures impact access to end-of-life support in chronic conditions. Chronic diseases account for 90% of deaths in Australia, yet access to end-of-life support is limited and little is known about services in rural areas. Information gathered through patient and stakeholder interviews, national survey and service mapping will be used to generate a new evidence-based ....Dying well: Designing rural end-of-life services for chronic disease. Adaptive capabilities in the elderly during extreme heat events in South Australia. This study, using first hand accounts of experiences and perceptions of the extreme heat event of 2009 in South Australia, will provide a valuable insight into the heat adaptive capability of the ageing population, factors affecting susceptibility, and ways to curb the predicted increase in often life-threatening heat exacerbated illnesses, many of which require extended hospital stays.
