The popular culture of romantic love in twentieth-century Australia. In western culture 'love' is commonly cited as the reason for cohabitation or marriage, yet 46% of marriages are likely to end in divorce in Australia today. This project examines how the culture of romantic love has changed over the course of the twentieth century as changing patterns of work and gender relations, consumerism and the supplanting of spiritual ideals by sexuality and the cult of the body modified representations ....The popular culture of romantic love in twentieth-century Australia. Enterprising women: race, gender and power in the revolutionary Atlantic, 1770-1820. This historical project will research emancipated slave women who became successful entrepreneurs in the British slave colonies in the late eighteenth-century, to show how these remarkable free black women influenced the culture of the British empire, both in the colonies and at home.
A New History of 1968: Feminism and Student Revolt in the Colonels' Greece (1967-1974). The student revolts of 68 are usually associated with Paris, Berkeley, Turin, Chicago, Leeds. But student uprisings also occurred in the universities of Australia, when students mobilised most notably against the Vietnam War. But there is another dimension which makes this project an important one for Australia - namely, that many Greek citizens migrated to Australia both after the Civil War (1946-1949) and a ....A New History of 1968: Feminism and Student Revolt in the Colonels' Greece (1967-1974). This project will create and define generic tools and services to increase the productivity of those involved with the creation, maintenance and use of source material for humanities research. It will provide a pathway to move this infrastructure onto a more sustainable footing and address issues of information overload, authority and quality facing researchers in the networked digital age. Accompanying colonial families along circuits of empire between Australia, Asia, and the UK over two centuries, these were extraordinarily mobile women.
