Reform in the antipodes: Quaker humanitarians, imperial journeys and early histories of human rights. This study adds an important new chapter to the history of human rights by examining Quaker humanitarian tours to the antipodean colonies of Australia, Mauritius, and the Cape Colony, which led to major imperial reforms in the treatment of slaves, Indigenous peoples, convicts and indentured labourers in the British Empire.
Everyday Obligations: Households and Economic Change in the British Isles 1650-1850. The project will develop scholarship about the history of family and households in the British Isles during industrialisation and associated changes. The resulting published work will advance our knowledge of the social implications of demographic change; the relationship between people and environment; the impact of industrialisation on demography as well as the micro-economies of past households and families. ....Everyday Obligations: Households and Economic Change in the British Isles 1650-1850. No work like this has ever been produced, and it will provide Tasmanians with information about every aspect of their past, as much-praised Companions to South Australian and Australian History have done. Published in printed and CR-Rom format, its audiences will include the general public, students and academic researchers, ensuring the widest possible dissemination of the project's pioneering findings.
