This project will undertake a gendered analysis of how Australians can retire well, taking account of their key resources (such as work, superannuation, the aged pension, and other assets) and key demands (such as to work longer and to care for others in the context of an ageing population and a more feminised workforce).

HIV-AIDS and tuberculosis are two of the worlds most important diseases. HIV-AIDS is the fourth leading killing disease worldwide and tuberculosis is the leading opportunistic infection in patients with AIDS particularly in the developing world. Both microbes infect the same cell type, the macrophage, which is widely distributed throughout the body, particularly in lymph nodes and lung. Recent studies in humans have shown that HIV and TB like organisms stimulate each others growth. This study us ....HIV-AIDS and tuberculosis are two of the worlds most important diseases. This study uses the immense power of DNA microarrays, based on the identification of almost all genes by the human genome project, to decipher the interactions between the two microbes. By following up new leads indicated by the microarrays, the way in which the microbes manipulate the macrophage to enhance their own growth and that of the other can be eventually deciphered. Increasingly, adverse events in operative care are considered systemic rather than a product of system breakdown. Existing systems, and how they lead to adverse events, need to be made more explicit. RNA splicing: factors and mechanisms. Most primary gene transcripts must have their noncoding intronic sequences spliced out before the mRNA can be translated. Moreover, alternative splicing enables cells to generate a far more proteins than there are genes in the nucleus. Based on our proven success with ZNF265 we will isolate novel RNA interactors and their partners, colocalize these in intranuclear compartments, and elucidate their effect on pre-mRNA splicing. A new mechanism of gene regulation. This project will advance our knowledge of how genes are switched on and off, by focusing on a very common class of gene regulatory proteins known as zinc finger proteins. The results of this study will improve our understanding of the fundamental molecular events that underpin gene regulation and how we might control it in fields such as biotechnology and gene therapy.
