Charting work, life and well-being after the auto industry. This project aims to study the effects of industrial decline. Plans by Australia's last remaining car-makers to close local automotive assembly operations by 2016-17 are part of a major structural change in Australia’s economy and society away from manufacturing. This project will document how automotive employees and components manufacturers in Melbourne and Geelong contend with the transition. Expected outcomes from the project will include insights into the development of rhetoric based on analysis of archival, textual and interview-based data . It arises from widespread concern that Australia's place in the world economy has become increasingly peripheral in the context of New Economy industries. The study examines the social characteristics of entrepreneurs in New Economy industries, the ....New Economy entrepreneurs: making the decision to stay in Australia or relocate overseas. This study examines information and bioscience technology entrepreneurs in Australia and the decision-making process concerning the location of their businesses. It arises from widespread concern that Australia's place in the world economy has become increasingly peripheral in the context of New Economy industries. The study examines the social characteristics of entrepreneurs in New Economy industries, the different types of social networks in which entrepreneurs are embedded, and how these networks inform locational decisions. Australian girls who leave mainstream schooling. This project aims to investigate the everyday lives and imagined futures of Australian girls who leave mainstream schooling before Year 12, a group often overlooked because of a prime concern with ‘problem boys’. Following 30 girls with disrupted transitional pathways over two years enables a micro-sociological analysis of how the girls’ (dis-)connections to people, places and institutions develop over time. Analytically, it focuses on the girls’ ....Australian girls who leave mainstream schooling. This project aims to investigate the everyday lives and imagined futures of Australian girls who leave mainstream schooling before Year 12, a group often overlooked because of a prime concern with ‘problem boys’.
